Shinjuku Golden-Gai is a unique bar and restaurant district that emerged from the post-war black market in Tokyo. It quickly into a culturally-vibrant hotspot, as many actors and writers frequented the area in the post -war era. This bar was planned with this district’s rich culture in mind. A small section of the wooden row house with a frontage of only 1.5 ken (2.7meter) and an area of 4.3 tsubo (14 square meter) is reconstructed from various materials such as stainless steel, artificial marble, veneer, and a base from which the ceiling finish of the tenement is removed and bathed in neon light. We hope that a new interpretation of Shinjuku’s Golden-Gai will be felt along with the outer walls reminiscent of the Showa era.
